Clayton L. Dowd

Clayton is an associate attorney with Dowd & Dowd who fights for clients in some of the toughest cases—holding negligent lawyers accountable through legal malpractice claims and standing up for victims of catastrophic trucking crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, including tractor-trailers. His primary focus is on legal malpractice and trucking crash litigation, where he is recognized for his persistence and attention to detail. Clayton also represents clients in product liability, medical malpractice, and other professional liability cases, always with the same commitment to achieving justice. Beyond his core practice, he has contributed to complex international litigation with Tab Turner and the Osen Law Firm involving claims against Iran and major financial institutions tied to explosively formed penetrators (EFPs) used against U.S. service members in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Clayton is the great grandson of Major Edward P. Dowd, who was a distinguished member of the Mounted Police force for the City of St. Louis for 42 years. He is the grandson of Dowd & Dowd’s founder, Edward L. Dowd, who served in the FBI from 1942 to 1946. Edward L. Dowd founded Dowd & Dowd, P.C. in 1957. Clayton is the son of Dowd & Dowd’s President, Douglas P. Dowd, who has been practicing law since 1978 and has recovered millions of dollars for his clients throughout his years of litigation.
Clayton earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia and began his legal career at Dowd & Dowd as a paralegal. He went on to graduate from Saint Louis University School of Law with a concentration in civil litigation, earning the Academic Excellence Award in Advanced Dispute Resolution for achieving the top grade in the class.
