Paul G. Lane

Of Counsel

Paul Lane has been of counsel to Dowd & Dowd, P.C. since 2007. Prior to joining Dowd & Dowd, P.C., he worked at AT&T in various capacities for twenty-five years, including ten years as General Counsel covering Missouri & Kansas. Before joining AT&T, he worked for four years at Blackwell, Sanders, Matheny, Weary & Lombardi in Kansas City in various areas of litigation.

Paul focuses his practice on professional liability cases. Paul Lane was part of a trial team in a breach of trust against a bank trustee case in St. Louis County where the jury returned a verdict of $75 million in actual and punitive damages for the improper pledging of trust assets as collateral for loans to third party.  All pretrial discovery for this case was conducted by Paul and Douglas P. Dowd and the case was tried to verdict by Paul, Jim Bennett, and Megan Heinsz, who are principals at Dowd Bennett, LP in Clayton, Missouri.

Paul was the lead trial counsel in a medical malpractice wrongful death case in Scott County, Missouri. The jury returned a verdict against a hospital and awarded punitive damages as well. The case was appealed to the Missouri Supreme Court where it was affirmed. As a result of the judgement, the Missouri legislature changed the law to make it more difficult to collect punitive damages from healthcare providers.
